DR. SEEKATZ'Â TEAM

DR. ANNA SEEKATZ
Research Adviser
Dr. Seekatz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences with an expertise in human and mouse gut microbiota, where she looks at the interactions between the indigenous microbes and pathogens. She has extensive experience in designing mouse models that investigate host-pathogen interactions, including microbiota manipulation. She oversees the mouse
microbiome experiment. Her graduate and undergraduate student are involved in all aspects of those projects.

My portion of the project will focus on how diets of varying carbohydrate complexity impact the composition of the gut microbiome in mice. We will analyze the functional redundancy of gut microbes in mice based on either a low, medium, or high complexity carbohydrate diet. In addition, we will be collecting host associated data to see how the diet differences may affect host physiology.
